The Internet Handicapping Aid
You Can't Live Without
by George Kaywood

The community of Internet websites devoted to handicapping thoroughbred racing is a small one, reflecting the print counterpart in the world of newspapers, magazines and to some extent, books.

While such websites are, to some degree, competitors for sales of similar information, we at Handicapping.com have no qualms in talking about the free features of some our "competitors," because we know that many of them have linked to HDC and recommend us to their visitors for the free features we offer here.

With a major remodeling in 2000, the free Edge daily handicapping newsletter available online at both Brisnet.com and tsnhorse.com goes to the top of the list of Racing Websites You Can't Live Without

For beginners and veterans alike, a daily dose of this outstanding work should be a requirement, right after visiting handicapping.com, of course!

I could fill up a lot of space describing the large variety of features in the Edge and why they're valuable, but spotlighting  At a Glance, my favorite one, will serve nicely to show or remind  you how useful this information can be.

At a Glance today (Mon 12/3/00) features these tracks: Aqueduct, Calder, Fair Grounds, Golden Gate, Hawthorne, Hollywood, Laurel, Philadelphia Park, and Turfway Park.

The stats show current hot and cold trainers and jockeys, track bias week by week, and various win percentages. Keeping an eye on these stats as the meet progresses will not only help your handicapping, but your wagering as well.

For example, the current win% for favorites at Fair Grounds is....what? Would you believe 16% ???

Look at this example of the Edge's bias stats for FG for the first week:

Distance # of Races % Winners Wire to Wire Best Running Style Best Posts
6 f dirt 30 37% Early Middle
Turf Routes 6 17% Sustained Outside

And with a display that's much easier to read than the same information displayed in the DRF,  the simulcast player in search of mainly need-to-know facts will immediately see and remember trainer Brian J. Gilbert's name when they see his name atop the trainer standings with 3 wins in 4 races at average odds of almost 7-1 with no favorites among his winners.

Short-lived value? Sure, but if you're not keeping your own stats, the speed of the Internet enables you to get this info faster than you will in the printed edition of the DRF, and that may be just enough to make a difference between nailing a Gilbert winner at good odds and his first horse who wins as a favorite.

You have this information, and much more like it, available at your fingertips day or night for free for NINE tracks right now. You probably can't use it by itself for handicapping but as a hot, always current aid,  it's good stuff!
